In the 21st century, women are more powerful than ever. Women are working in every possible field of work shoulder to shoulder with men. Women are reaching heights in every field from social, economic to a political and legal field. To celebrate the spirit of women empowerment every year August 9 is celebrated as Women’s Day and the theme for this year was “Be Bold for Change”.

As the Tshwane North TVET College, the day was celebrated on the 15 th August in the Collegium Hall of Pretoria Campus.

As a college we celebrated the day to acknowledge the women in the College as large. The principal of the College, Ms Thembi Tsibogo, shared her personal experience or testimony with the women about the journey which reconciled her with God and being given a second chance to work and she encouraged women to take their jobs seriously and value what they have.

Among the women was Ms Mildred Nkopane Chief Director in the Premiers office, who graced us with her presence reading the speech of the DG, Ms Phindile Baleni, who had put emphasis on women changing the negative mind set, appreciating themselves and embracing youngsters in the workplace.

Thumbs up and hats off to this genius! Sydney Jesaya Shabangu is studying Financial Management at Tshwane North TVET College, Pretoria Campus.

He completed his National Certificate Vocational, (NC (V), Finance, Economics and Accounting, in record time with nine distinctions – 3 for New Venture, 2 for Life Orientation, 1 for Applied Accounting and 1 for Economics.

The one on one session we had with Sydney confirmed what a strong man he is. “I regard TNC as my second home because this is where I spend most of my time during the week, building my education. There are many people who support me, lecturers, general workers, administration staff and students. When I first got here I looked confident but inside I was wondering if I would cope.

I felt intimidated by being around physically abled people every day for the first time in my life as I was previously attending a college for the physically impaired.

As time went by I observed that when you have a positive attitude towards others, they will accept you and support you throughout your journey. Hard work, determination and support pushed me beyond my thoughts and dreams. I have also learnt that the tougher something gets, the more valuable it becomes. I am currently doing N5 Financial Management.

The most exciting day for me was on 29 June 2017 at the annual Graduation Ceremony of the TNC, when I ascended the stage for the first time to have my NC (V) qualification officially handed over to me.

To my resounding joy, I was announced as the best achiever in NC (V). I received a laptop, tablet and a trophy for my excellent performance. I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to my TNC family, my Mother and to God.”
